Dr. Maysa Alavi is a physician-leader in cannabinoid, psychedelic, and integrative/functional medicine. She earned her MD from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, completed residencies at Harbor-UCLA and USC–California Hospital, and trained in the University of Arizona Integrative Medicine in Residency Program. She holds certification in MDMA-assisted therapy from MAPS and has served as both investigator and study therapist in the MAPS/Lykos Phase 3 MDMA trials and COMPASS Pathways’ psilocybin study.
Dr. Alavi has prescribed medical cannabis since 2012 and serves on the board of the Veterans Alliance for Holistic Health Alternatives, supporting education and access for veterans. As former Medical Director of Usona Institute, she oversaw methodology and safety in 5-MeO-DMT and psilocybin research. Today, she is the Founder & Chief Medical Officer of The Center for Functional-Psychedelic Medicine: New Orleans, where she leads an integrative practice uniting ketamine therapy, functional medicine, group work, and clinician education.
Her work integrates psychedelic-assisted therapy, preparation and integration, chi gung, yoga, Daoist energy practices, guided meditation, reiki, and functional medicine, with a focus on ethical, evidence-based, and compassionate care. She is passionate about advancing group ketamine therapy, energy-based healing, and functional labs that explore hormones, nutrition, mold toxicity, and other root causes of imbalance.
